Settings - Site Feed

What is 'Site Feed'?

Syndication means, when you publish your blog, Blogger automatically generates a machine-readable representation of your blog that can be picked up and displayed on other web sites and information aggregation tools. Special pieces of software called Newsreaders (or Aggregators) can scan these feeds, automatically letting you know when the sites have updated. Examples are Google Reader, FeedDemon (Windows), Bloglines (web-based), *NetNewsWire (* Mac OS X), Shrook , and AtomEnabled.org.

I prefer 'Sage'.

One reason to syndicate your site is to gain a wider audience by attracting aggregator users.

1) Settings - Site Feed

2) Mode Selection - Basic or Advanced

3) Blog Posts Feed - With the 'Settings' - Site Feed Screen, your first decision should be whether you want a Full Page Post or Comment feed, or a Short 'snippet' feed (select if you only wish to syndicate the first paragraph, or approximately 255 characters, whichever is shorter). You do this by selecting the 'Mode' - Basic or Advanced. Then select NONE, FULL or SHORT - Selecting 'NONE' will turn off your feeds altogether.

I don't see any difference between 'Basic' and 'Advanced' Mode, as Blogger is now applying the selection to all three options, anyway!

4) Blog Comments Feed - This setting will be applied to each type of feed (Post, comment and per-post comment feed).

5) Per-Post Comment Feed
- This option provides each individual post with its own site feed, containing only its own comments. see Roberto's Report Newsfeeds

6) Post Feed Redirection URL -
If you’ve burned your feed with, say, FeedBurner, or used another service to process your feed, you can have Blogger redirect all feed traffic for your blog to the feed URL of your choice. You simply paste the feed URL into the 'box', and then 'Save'.

7) Post Feed Footer -
This will appear after each post in your post feed. If you use ads, or other third- party feed additions, you can enter that code here, too. You must also set the 'Enable Post Pages' to 'Yes' in Settings - Archiving, and set 'Blog Posts Feed' to 'Full' - see above.

According to the latest 'Known Issues' file, all relevant problems with 'feeds' have been fixed - for now!

Of course, there is always 'Atom'.
