Following - Which Languages?

The 'new' gadget, 'Following', is available for all users - in English. It doesn't matter which English you set - English (Australia), English (Philipines) English (Malta), as long as it is English.

This means, if you are French, or whatever, you can have the 'Following' gadget - although it will be in English -

BUT,

and there's nearly always a 'but'. In this case, there are two (2) 'buts'.

• If your Settings - Formatting - Language is set to English, and your Profile Language is French, the gadget will appear on your 'Layout' screen AND Main Page - in English. Why? Because it is ONLY available in English. In other words, it's just like any other gadget.
  
• If your Settings - Formatting - Language is set to, say, French, and your Profile Language is set to English, the gadget will appear on your 'Layout' screen, but NOT on your Blog Main Page! Why? Because the feature is ONLY available in English!

So, be mindful of the two Language settings. I would appear that, as far as 'Following' is concerned, the Settings - Formatting Language option takes precedence over the Profile Language.

Let me show you ...

Settings - Formatting (English)



Layouts screen - add a gadget - Following


Main Page - Blog - Following gadget appears - in English


BUT - if 'French' is selected on Settings...


The Layout screen allows you to choose 'Following'... in French ...



and it appears on your Layout screen - in French ...



But, it does not appear on the Main Page of the Blog ... in French!




You can select any of the English variation Languages on Settings - Formatting, and get 'Following' to appear on your Main Page, and in your Layouts, as a regular gadget would ...






If you select French in Settings, then you get this ...



Remember when 'Following' just became available - for some users, not all? The 'Add a Gadget' wizard said something like 'Experimental' - as above.



So, the only way to have the feature 'Following' as a workable gadget/feature on your Blog, is to have English set as your language on Settings - Formatting - Language, and in your Profile, too. Correct? Well, not exactly.

You can still have English in Settings, select 'Following' in English, yet have your Profile Language set to French, or any other language. The trouble is, the 'Following' gadget will ONLY be in English.







As soon as you try to change the Settings language, you lose the Feature.
