Backing-up your Blog Template was crucial in the beta phase of the New Blogger system, and is still crucial in these days of New Blogger, where bloggers can gain so much access to our Templates, without many of them really knowing what they are doing. Now the Beta phase of the New Blogger is over, I wouldn't let one chance of making a Template back-up copy, slip by. If I am touching/tweaking the Template of any of my Blogs, I make a back-up BEFORE and AFTER.
Backing-up my Blogger Template. How do I?
Step 1. Open the 'Layout' from the Dashboard - or, the 'Customise' from the Navbar (if you have one).

Step 2. Click on 'Edit HTML' and then click on 'Download Full Template'.

Step 3. A Pop-Up wizard will appear, displaying your Template ID. Then 'Save to Disk' or 'Save to a Folder' as I do.

Step 4. Save the copy of your template to a pre-set Folder, somewhere on your computer, maybe in 'My Documents' Folder. This is of paramount importance, because you NEVER know when you'll need an updated copy. Even if I am not working on my Templates, I do a regular monthly Back-up copy. I also delete oldest one afterwards.

Finish by 'Saving' and return to the Blog. Easy.
ALWAYS DO A BACK-UP COPY OF THE TEMPLATE - WHEN WORKING ON IT !
