HOW TO STOP SEARCH ROBOTS FROM BLOG INDEXING
Many bloggers do NOT want the Google Search Robots to 'crawl', or index their blogs, and thus, continually update their blog on the Internet. They have their reasons, I suppose.
Stopping the Search Engine Robots is generally, a two-fold task.
- Turn off the option in Settings.
- Add a Meta Tag to your Template.
There is one option for this purpose, on Settings - Basic screen, which you need to look at.
- Let Search Engines find your blog? - Yes, or No
The Blogger Settings - Basic screen option displays some information below it - "If you select "Yes" we will include your blog in Google Blog Search and ping Weblogs.com. If you select "No", everyone can still view your blog but search engines will be instructed not to crawl it."
This may, or may not always work. Or, at least, as well as it would be expected. If you want the Robot to stop crawling your blog, select NO.
The next step, is to tell all Search Engine Robots, that this blog is NOT to be crawled. To achieve that, you need to insert a Meta tag into the Template.
Don't panic, it's easy enough to do - but, as always, make a back-up copy of your Template before and after working on it.
The Meta tag will look like this:-
<meta name="robots" content="noindex,nofollow"/>
This meta tag tells the Robots not to crawl your blog, and not to follow any links which are on pages. It needs to be inserted immediately after the < head > in your Template. see: image...
Note: - The above steps do NOT influence the blog listings. You have to attend to that yourself, if you want a truly Private blog. see: Settings - Basic option, and then Settings - Permissions.
