Why Do You Follow a Blog?

Location: Newcastle, NSW. Australia. Newcastle NSW, Australia

Since Follower was introduced, many bloggers, and readers in general, have started Following blogs, rather than, or in addition to, subscribing to that blog. There is a difference, too!

But, as much as I am a Follower of many blogs, and have my own reasons for it, I often ask; "Why do people Follow certain blogs? Is it because they like the content, or is it for some other reason?"

The reasons I Follow blogs are:

  • The content of the posts is interesting to me. I enjoy reading it.
  • I like the style of writing used. Sometimes, it is humorous and amusing.
  • Sometimes, it is the set-up of the blog, itself. I like to see what others are doing - technically.
  • I Follow a blog because I can learn something.
  • I Follow blogs because they have technical information which I will use, time and time again.
  • I Follow other blogs because I hope people will find my blog(s) interesting, too, and Follow in return.
  • I Follow blogs to see who is Following them. That's one way I find Great Blogs to Follow, myself!
  • I use Follower like a Bookmark.

It is also essential that you know who is Following you, publicly.

That's about it, as far as my reasons for Following a blog are concerned. Why do you Follow a blog?

I follow for many of the same reasons as you, Bob:

1. Content
2. Have blog appear in my reading list
3. Nosy (who else is following)
4. Quid pro quo
5. Support

Hi Bob ..
1) the content
2) learning process - I probably don't comment
3) information technical, professional or erudite - again I don't comment
4) interactive .. with others

5) If I see someone following whom I don't recognise I check and then can delete them if I don't like what I see ..

6) following for the sake of following is something I've done - but I don't want people doing it to me .. so I interact and then follow ..

Question .. how do you use follower like a bookmark?

You fall into another category .. someone I learn from, whose helpful and I comment when appropriate - but the respect for each other is there ..

Cheers Hilary

Thanks, Hilary

I sometimes get very greedy, and Follow a blog for my own reasons - maybe it's just for the possibilities that may develop. That's what I call Bookmarking - rather than the traditional form.

Hi Bob .. that I can understand .. it's how do you find them again?

ie say you'd forgotten my blog - how do you know where to look?

& what about WordPress, typepad blogs can you do the same process with them?

Thanks - bye - Hilary

Yes, it's one way I can find them again.
We're talking blogs that do NOT have Follower, which is Google. I'm sure they have some sort of gadget like Follower, but I don't know 4 sure.

What you can also do is create a folder on your Bookmarks Toolbar, and drag any interesting blog's URL into that - for later viewing.

I use either way.
