Update on the Slowdown

Location: Newcastle, NSW. Australia. Newcastle NSW, Australia

I suffered a stroke, on Sunday, 21st Aug., eight days before my 60th birthday. Damn. I had been feeling crook for a while, leading up to the actual event.

Considering all that could've happened, I guess I have been lucky to escape with just a speech impairment, some weakness on the right-side, and a bloody computer-keyboard which refuses to type, and spell, correctly.

The Speech Pathologist described my condition as similar to a computer. All known words are on little files which the brain is so used to using, that it 'senses' the file which is going to be used, and gets it ready in advance. Trouble is, that there has been a major earthquake in Bobtown, and the wrong files are being prepared. I think I am going to say the correct word, then everything goes haywire.

So, I have to train the brain differently. It'll be a slow and exhaustive process.

I hope my readers will understand, and hang-in there.

Hi Bob .. the most important thing is you - though I quite understand your little baby and the net is what motivates you.

The brain does continue to relearn .. and improve .. surprisingly quite a lot .. but your health is the most important - rather than us, the keyboard and information.

Just please! look after you .. we'll be here I'm sure .. so pleased it's not too terrible .. go well - lots of sleep, fruit and veg and some gentle fresh air exercise .. lots of thoughts and a virtual hug!! Cheers Hilary

Hi Bob,

Wishing you all the very best! HANG in there - you WILL get better. It will take a while - small steps - but you WILL get better. Take care of yourself - we will still be here and aren't going anywhere. Sending you some {{hugs}} from Melbourne, Victoria!!

Oh, no! You sound wonderful, but I imagine the effort it took to retrieve all those little files. I hope you are feeling better very soon. Remember those neural pathways are still there and will be firing up again soon, but be gentle and don't push yourself too hard.

Take care of yourself. The internet will always be here when you feel more up to it.

I am getting better at speaking, but it is a slow process. I feel that I have to rush so that I don't feel dumb in front of someone - and I get flustered which makes it worse.

Typing is also a pain. It's taken me nearly 30 mins to type this comment.

Thank you all so much for your thoughts and well-wishes. It is so wonderful to hear from you!

Hi Bob .. we're here and it's great to have some news of you - I was wondering and intending to email, so very pleased to have your update.

I was about to repeat my comment left - seems a little silly so I stopped!

Update from the top of the world - I could hibernate right now - winter is coming! Still the Autumn is beautiful ..

Be patient, relax and enjoy life there's so much going on regardless of speech, which will come! Cheers for now and a big hug or two - Hilary
